Defend Trade Secrets Act (DTSA) signed into law by President Obama on Wednesday, May 11, 2016.

This important piece of legislation will for the first time allow for federal protection of trade secrets. This statute allows an owner of a trade secret (confidential information) that has been misappropriated to bring a federal court action. This is meaningful because in the past, trade secrets have long been protected by a hodgepodge of state laws which resulted in disjointed outcomes. With this new law, trade secret owners can now rely on a single nationwide standard.

Please contact us if your data has been illicitly or improperly obtained, so we can discuss the options available to you and whether you qualify to bring a DTSA action.
